typhoon bolaven.

South Korea expected Typhoon Bolaven to hit Seoul with a vengeance, and it did hit Jeju Island pretty hard. Everything is shut down today, aside from Family Mart, most schools and businesses are closed. However, I am laying in bed right now, enjoying my lazy day off, and experiencing nothing aside from a strong gust of wind outside our window. The wind was definitely kicking this morning and blowing bits of sheet metal off the roofs, the sky has looked dark and menacing all day, but thus far, it hasn’t rained.

Coming from the Gulf Coast, I know a few things about hurricanes, and I appreciate the Korean government taking this one seriously — but I am not going to say that after all the buildup and preparation I wasn’t a little bit disappointed in the outcome. I am not complaining about a free day off work! And we didn’t do anything too crazy aside from buy a few ramen cups and 6 pack of bottled water.

I ran around earlier and took a few pictures of our neighborhood preparing for the storm. All those tape X’s kind of made it feel like home:

This is so weird. I had a weekend pretty much like this with hurricane Isaac passing under Florida. It’s headed for the gulf now.

All close calls and a free day off of work. Thank God for safety, however.

Yes, my friends and family back home have been keeping me updated about Hurricane Isaac. Is everything safe in FL now?

I’m glad that everything’s okay there and that you’re enjoying your day off. Stay safe!

Glad everything is okay and that you guys are safe, but I’d probably be bummed at the outcome after all the prep for it, too.

It’s always good to have candles on hand any way.
